Dear Tom,
In order to prick the balloon, one must identify which is the balloon and which is the other.
You seem to be suffering from Grade A ‘Prick-ism’. You failed in your liberal views of the Middle East, Oslo and just about every and all predictions you have made. Your inclusion of Israel in your "All Alone" article cast Israel’s offering of her every assistance as part of the "What’s in it for me?" article in the NEW YORK TIMES of October 26th.
Israel has been fighting terrorists (your dear friends, the Palestinians), even when you were being a prime Leftist radical on campus. Israel was the first to offer her help in rescue at the World Trade Center, including on-ground intelligence (which has been silently accepted but not acknowledged by those pursuing Arab affection and a non-existent coalition with Arab nations.)
Israel offered to send her well-seasoned rescue teams to America the very next day. But, all her help was refused because your fellow travelers in the Arabist State Department and the Administration, guided by the Bush, Sr./James Baker team, refused Israel’s offers to fight Global Terrorism. Israel’s assistance might offend the Arab nations, many of whom are already on our State Department’s list of Terrorist Nations.
Their response, identical to yours, was to insist Israel stop fighting Arafat’s daily terror attacks. Israel was supposed to be silent and absorbed all of her 658 murders to date since Oslo, plus thousands more injured, some maimed for life. Then Powell could theoretically enlist all those Arab nations you mentioned who have already refused to offer any assistance to America’s call.
Because you are a confirmed Leftist and an incurable Class A P...k, you had to find a twist by stating that Israel would assist America only "if we ignored 7000 ‘colonial’ settlers" [sic] in the middle of a million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip (a comment which had nothing to do with anything),
I am reminded of the telling comment in your book "from Beirut to Jerusalem" about your stint as first reporter for the NEW YORK TIMES which began during the Lebanon War of 1982 where you blatantly admitted that you came to Israel determined to "nail Begin and Sharon" [then Prime Minister Menachem Begin, z’l and now Prime Minister Ariel Sharon]. Clearly you are still "nailing" the Jewish State while offering damage control for the pro-Arabist State Department to explain away Arafat’s daily terrorism.
Tell me, your holiness of yellow journalism, wasn’t your support of Arab nations and terrorist groups intended so the end product would be some sort of elastic peace? You have been back-peddling since Arafat’s ‘intifada’ knocked your pacifistic theories into your cocked hat!
Israel was the only nation to declare a day of mourning (one day before the American day of mourning) for the victims of your Terrorist friends while the Arabs and Muslims marked the day for celebration for years to come. (While I was on a live radio interview, a caller reported that Muslims in his area of America were celebrating.) The Jews prayed and the Palestinians in Israel danced as we saw on TV. This is just the kind of symmetry that would baffle a Class A P...k or the hot air balloon - whichever you really are.
Friedman, you are a twisted personality who has been given a podium in an equally twisted journal. Perhaps one day you will be netted and quietly put on mind-altering drugs to bring your back from the dark pit from whence you scream.
