In an unusually harsh editorial, official Syrian
newspaper Tishrin compared Israel to the Nazis,
claiming that Zionism "created the Holocaust
myth to blackmail and terrorize the world's
intellectuals and politicians."
Authored by the daily's editor-in-chief,
Mohammed Kheir al-Wadi, the editorial claimed
that Israel "is now dealing with Arabs in the
occupied Syrian Golan Heights, Palestine and
South Lebanon in the same way - by burning any
chance to realize the just and comprehensive
peace that will restore properties to their rightful
owners."
Al-Wadi also claimed that Israel is now "acting in
the style of the Holocaust in its treatment of the
Arabs to attain two aims. The first is to receive
more money from Germany and other Western
establishments on the pretext of compensation for
the Holocaust. It has already obtained tens of
billions of dollars in this way. The second aim is
to hang the myth like a sword of Damocles
accusing anyone opposed to Zionism and its
expansionist policies of anti-Semitism."
The editorial continues, "People and the media in
Europe are starting to ask questions in order to
discover the truth, which has been revised by the
Zionists. That is the reason they recently held an
international conference in Switzerland in order
to bolster their lies and make them seem logical.
Zionism embroiders stories about the Holocaust
by taking it completely out of proportion."
Al-Wadi also wrote that the Zionists are trying to
"silence those who speak the truth," mentioning
the name of British historian and Holocaust
denier David Irving.
In response to the reports of the article in Tishrin
calling Israelis "the new anti-Semites," the Likud
says that Syrian President Hafez Assad
continues to humiliate Barak and all the citizens
of Israel. MK Danny Naveh said, "Barak's silence
puts the State of Israel to shame".
