Dear Mr. Netanyahu,
I recently finished reading The Letters of Jonathan Netanyahu. I have been deeply moved by books in the past, but never as I was with this one. What a gift you and your family have given to the world in sharing your beloved brother with us all. My heart went out to him as a young man in America, away from the land he so dearly loved and rejoiced with him when he was able to return. He seemed such a complex, yet simple man. He had the ability to plan and carry out superb military missions then turn around and completely enjoy sleeping under the stars. As I read his descriptions of the beauty in Israel my yearning to see the land intensified as never before He obviously loved his family and truly missed being with them. I laughed with him, grieved with him, felt tremendous pride in him and wanted so badly for the end to be different. To paraphrase his words, how terrible it is to say, he was. If there was ever a! time when Israel and the world needed him it is now. His country is under constant attack while the world stands by, watches, and tries to convince us the aggressors are really the victims. I have many times wondered how he would be responding to the events of our time. I do feel certain about one thing. He would be telling his brother, Benjamin, to get back in the fight. Mr. Netanyahu, you've been away too long. Your country and my country needs you, and Yoni would expect nothing less. And, so, with that final thought, I again thank you for this book. It will be read many times over.
