Israel Didn't Learn Chamberlain's Lesson
by David Reagan, October 24, 2000
NOTE: Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister of Britain, appeased Adolf Hitler, believing he was a reasonable and forthright statesman, by allowing Hitler to occupy the Sudetenland for a promise that this is all Germany would ever want.
It is reported that on his deathbed, Chamberlain lamented that he ever trusted Hitler.
David Reagan, Founder of Lamb and Lion Ministries, commented on the current situation in Israel after reading our most recent Update from Jerusalem:
"Your most recent comments about the situation over there reminded me of how futile it is to follow a policy of appeasement. All it does is whet the appetite of the aggressor. When this was pointed out to Shimon Peres as a lesson of history, he responded, "I'm not interested in history."
Well, those who ignore history are destined to relive it. The Israeli leadership has succeeded in making Neville Chamberlain look good. He was an idiot to think he could buy peace with Hitler through an exchange of land (the Sudetenland), but at least he gave away someone else's land, and not his own. The Israelis are now reaping what they have sown. I hope that the current events have opened the eyes of the Israeli leadership to the truth that the Arabs want all of Israel. The only problem is that the Trojan horse is inside the city."
